Deck and Outdoor Living Builder in Seattle, WA

Seattle yards are smaller, steeper and older than most on the Eastside: narrow lots with alley access, Craftsman houses with original porches, hillside homes in Magnolia and West Seattle with decks hung off the back. We take Seattle projects where the design has to be clever: decks that fit a tight footprint, porches that suit a hundred-year-old house, and covered spaces that make a small yard usable in the rain. Seattle is twenty to forty minutes from our shop.

Seattle yards and what they need

Craftsman and bungalow neighborhoods (Wallingford, Ballard, Ravenna, Columbia City)

Front porch rebuilds in period style, compact rear decks, pergolas.

Hillside neighborhoods (Magnolia, Queen Anne, West Seattle, Madrona)

Elevated decks off main floors, view railings, engineered footings on steep slopes.

Mid-century neighborhoods (View Ridge, Wedgwood, Lake City)

Ground-level decks and patios, covered areas, replacements.

Infill and townhouse areas

Small decks, privacy screens, planter integration.

Seattle permits for decks

Seattle's Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) requires permits for decks more than 30 inches above grade, roofed structures and hot tub decks. Small projects may qualify for faster review; elevated decks on steep slopes in environmentally critical areas require geotechnical input and longer review. Seattle protects large and exceptional trees citywide, which affects footing locations on many lots. What the city reviews, and how long it takes, is in our deck permit guide.

Things we design around in Seattle

  • Narrow lots and setbacks that limit deck width.
  • Steep slopes and environmentally critical areas.
  • Period architecture on older homes, especially porches.
  • Tree protection rules.
  • Access: narrow side yards and alleys that limit equipment and material delivery.

Seattle deck and patio questions

Can you rebuild my Craftsman front porch in its original style?

Yes. We match column profiles, rail patterns and trim, using rot-resistant materials where they will not show.

How long does an SDCI deck permit take?

Weeks for a simple elevated deck; longer on steep slopes or with critical-area review.

My side yard is only three feet wide. Can you build in back?

Yes. We plan material delivery and use smaller equipment, sometimes through the alley.

Do you travel to every Seattle neighborhood?

Yes, with scheduling that accounts for the drive.
